In response to overwhelming requests from the half a million and more people who have seen this amazing exhibition in Australia and New Zealand since its launch in February 2015, we have now begun putting  the stories online - it will take a little time to add all of them, so keep checking the site.

Some of you will have seen different versions of the Exhibition - two versions in Australia (when it appeared in more than one location at the same time); and another version in NZ.  Some of the New Zealanders appeared in the Australian version and some of the Australians appeared in the NZ version, although in different outfits. We will try to cover all of them....in time.

WOMEN OF EMPIRE EXHIBITION 1914-1918 is still, so far as we can ascertain, the only Exhibition anywhere in the world dedicated entirely to the women of WWI. The Exhibition features the women of Australia and New Zealand whose lives were transformed by the cataclysm of the First World War, each of them represented in an original outfit of the era from the extensive collection of Dressing Australia Museum of Costume. Visit womenofempire@bigpond.com to see it in a whole variety of venues - museums, galleries, libraries, Royal Shows.

WOMEN OF EMPIRE EXHIBITION 1914-1918 was conceived, created and curated by Fiona and Keith Baverstock of Dressing Australia Museum of Costume.  The stories we are adding to this site represent the distillation of many years of research into engaging, readable and unique story banners (text, headlines, format copyright to Dressing Australia Museum of Costume) suitable for our Exhibition. We hope they stimulate an interest in these inspiring women and set you off on the trail of uncovering more about them.
